Flame Detectors

Industrial-Grade Professional Flame Detection Solutions

What Is a Flame Detector and How Does It Work?

One of the greatest risks in flammable and explosive environments is sudden flash fires. Industrial flame detectors are designed to minimize this risk. Using high-sensitivity detection technologies, they detect flames that may occur in industrial facilities within milliseconds and trigger the alarm system.

Principle of Operation

Industrial flame detectors operate using infrared (IR), ultraviolet (UV), and combined UV/IR technologies. These sensors detect the characteristic radiation of different types of flames, minimizing the risk of false alarms and responding quickly to real hazards. This ensures the safety of operators and prevents damage to the facility.

Applications

Flame detectors are commonly used in high-risk areas such as oil and gas facilities, chemical plants, and power plants. Also, they are used as critical safety equipment in paint shops, storage areas, and industrial kitchens.

Communication and Outputs

Flame detectors can be easily integrated with automation systems using relay outputs, an analog 4–20 mA signal, and digital communication protocols such as Modbus RS-485. This enables data transmission to fire control panels and SCADA systems.

Certifications and Durability

Industrial flame detectors must be certified for use in explosive atmospheres, such as ATEX and IECEx. In addition, their rugged designs ensure reliable performance for many years.

About the FDX-3IR Flame Detector

The Karf&Scoot FDX-3IR Flame Detector is an ATEX-certified, explosion-proof flame detector featuring three-channel infrared (IR3) sensor technology.

Its algorithm, which simultaneously compares three distinct infrared wavelengths, distinguishes the characteristic radiation signature of hydrocarbon fires from interference sources such as sunlight, hot surfaces, and artificial lighting. This allows the device to respond to a real fire within seconds while keeping the false alarm rate to a minimum.

Project-specific configurations, short lead times, and spare parts and technical support for the FDX-3IR are provided directly by the manufacturer. The device integrates seamlessly into your existing fire detection and SCADA infrastructure via relay output, a 4–20 mA analog signal, and Modbus RS485 communication.

About IRT Series Flame Detectors

Karf & Scoot IRT Series Flame Detectors offer a reliable and effective solution for the fire hazard, which is one of the biggest risks in industrial facilities.

Its powerful hardware and software allow it to detect the flame in the shortest time. Its multiple sensors and advanced software reduce the rate of false alarms to a minimum. Karf & Scoot IRT flame detectors are quite small and light compared to their competitors. Thanks to its stainless steel ex-proof body, it can be used safely in explosive environments.

021-A and 110-K models offer alternatives suitable for industrial needs.
